The latest Internet Ramblings on Fargo

When you visit Fargo-Moorhead, you will find yourself in one of the most warm-hearted communities in the entire nation! There is no doubt that you will be very busy exploring and experiencing all that Fargo- Moorhead has to offer. Fargo-Moorhead consists of two cities in two states that currently combine for a population of over 200,000. Our community is currently the largest shopping destination between Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Spokane, Washington. We are home to a vibrant economy, unique attractions and numerous dining establishments of every kind and flavor. The two cities are divided by the Red River which also serves as the border between the states of North Dakota and Minnesota. The river itself is unique as it flows north to eventually drain into Lake Winnipeg.

Less than ten thousand years ago, the area that is now Fargo-Moorhead was 200 feet below the surface of Lake Agassiz, a huge inland sea formed at the end of the last iceage. Over centuries the waters receded, leaving six feet of rich, black soil that today make the Red River Valley one of the worlds most fertile farmlands, with Fargo and Moorhead as its center.

The Red River of the North separates the two cities and serves as the border between North Dakota and Minnesota. The city of Fargo was named for one of the owners of the Wells-Fargo Express Company, William G. Fargo. In 1885, the existence of many lawyers in Fargo and easy divorce laws prompted thousands of unhappy married people to apply for the "Ten-Minute Divorce.
